(Adoulis) - In a proactive step to the Eritrean opposition conference which is expected to be held at the end of March; the two wings of the Eritrean Congress Party have signed unification agreement whereby Huruy Tadlabairu was selected as Chairman of the Executive Committee and Dr. Mohammad Osman Abubaker as president emeritus until his recovery.
A joint statement signed by both the Huruy Tadlabairu and Issa Hammad called for recovery of the party's membership in the Eritrean Democratic Alliance, which was suspended earlier because of the split.
Meanwhile, the party apologized to the people of Eritrea because of the split that occurred in the party, and called on Sana'a Gathering to bless the unity of the party.
The statement called on the conference of the Eritrean opposition which is anticipated to take place at the end of March to allow participation of all Eritrean political forces and to declare exile government.
The statement said that the dialogue between the party's wings started during the meeting of the Legislative Council on March 4, from which a committee of dialogue between the two wings emerged. The statement added that the committee came up with a joint agreement whereby Huruy Tadlabairu was elected as chairman of the Executive Committee, Ali Omar as chairman the Legislative Council, Ibrahim Mualim as chairman of the Central Committee and Mohammad Osman Abubaker president emeritus of the party.
In a first reaction to the agreement, the deputy chairman of the Congress Party – Huruy's wing, Idris Gaisam, has criticized the agreement and described the meeting as illegitimate accused. He also accused Huruy of taking individual decisions. He further called for emergency meeting of the Executive Committee and the Legislative Council to resolve internal differences.
